We currently use some of the above scenarios. When purchasing enters a PO with physical goods on the order, a record is created in a receiving spreadsheet. The receiving crew can view the sheet and has an order number to reference when the goods arrive on the truck. They know what's coming in and when.
Also, when someone takes a tank reading using a level monitor, they have to push a button to get the reading. Every time they push the button, the information that they see is uploaded through cellular communication and updates an inventory sheet. This way there's a record of the amount of fluid is in the tank.
Another scenario is when a customer brings in something for us to work on, we receive the broken piece with our app. When we receive the item, the app triggers an action that links the broken piece to an order. This allows the receiver to take pictures of the piece and have complete visibility of the order / broken piece. There is no more loss of parts.
